Find Out the Truth About Botox For Neck Lines One of the most important things that women look forward to having done by their plastic surgeons is the injection of Botox into their neck lines. This is because Botox works by temporarily paralyzing a nerve or muscle, which in turn prevents that muscle from moving when the person smiles, frowns or even breathes. It does this by blocking off the communication between the nerves and the muscles that move them. The result is that the person remains awake during the process but does not wake up feeling uncomfortable, unlike other procedures like a facelift or a rhinoplasty where you have to be awake while the surgeon works on your face.

Why use Botox for neck lines?

One of the main reasons is that these lines are especially prominent in women who are more than fifty years old, but that does not mean that younger women cannot benefit from Botox. In fact, younger women may actually find that Botox helps them look younger. That is because the injectable substance relaxes the muscles that cause wrinkles and muscle lines.

Necklines are particularly problematic because they do not change with age, but they do change with time. As women age, the amount of collagen and elastin that remain in their skin decreases. Without the substances that help to keep those tissues intact, those lines and wrinkles begin to appear. There are a variety of reasons why this occurs, including loss of collagen and elastin due to age, aging, smoke, environmental factors and weight fluctuations. All of those things contribute to the loss of hyaluronic acid, which supplies moisture to collagen and elastin.

Cosmetic companies that offer Botox injections usually recommend that you have the procedure performed on your forehead. However, there are some medical conditions that make that a moot point. For example, if you have a herniated disk, the neck is probably going to be the most difficult area for you to treat. However, many plastic surgeons believe that the technique can be modified so that neck lines can be effectively treated.

The safety of botox injections

The injections are relatively safe. During your consultation, you will probably be asked questions about any other medications you take, such as diabetes or high blood pressure medications. Also, ask them whether or not you currently have neck arthritis or pain from an injury. Sometimes, the shots are given while the individual is sleeping. That means you don’t have to interrupt your sleep to visit the doctor.

What happens during the procedure is relatively simple. Injections are made into the crevices of your neck, and then a diluted solution of botulinum toxin is injected directly into the muscles. Botox for neck lines works by relaxing the facial muscles and causing a slight tightening of the skin. This causes the wrinkles to soften and to disappear. The injections may be given on an outpatient basis, and you can recover in about a week. Some people experience only minor discomfort, while others experience moderate to severe pain and swelling.

After recovery

Even after recovery, Botox injections may cause some redness, bruising, and irritation. This typically goes away within a few days. It may also cause your neck to feel somewhat dry. This is usually temporary, and you’ll probably be given pain medication to control it. The medication usually expires after a couple of weeks.

If you decide to get Botox injections, talk with your doctor about possible side effects. You may experience headache, muscle weakness, nausea, or a mild fever. Rarely, there are allergic reactions to the botulinum toxin. Rarely, serious side effects occur, including seizures, breathing problems, or liver disease. Talk to your doctor if you think you might have a health problem that would make it worth your while to get Botox injections.
